Hi everyone,
For those of you who would like to get some hands on practice at weeding and assessing your school library collection, I will be running a session at Papatoetoe South School on Thursday Dec 2 from 9.30 am - 2.30 (at the very latest).
Please RSVP to me, lisa.allcott@natlib.govt.nz if you would like to attend. You will need to bring your lunch if you intend to stay into the afternoon (not obligatory). We will spend some time discussing the issues around weeding and assessing your collection, but will mostly be working with the collection.
National Library will be looking at filming some of the session for adding to the website but there is no obligation to be on film if you do not wish to be.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
Lisa Allcott

A bit of a survey...
Hi all from the 2009 course and welcome to those on the 2010! I have a bit of a problem in my library, so I thought I'd survey you all and hopefully get some ideas to solve the problem. My inherited shelving is shelving along a wall that has no fixed ends or fixed dividers and so to indicate the alphabetical and dewey numerical systems we use the Raeco Indicator blocks ( fig C on Raeco's 2010 catalogue, pg E29 ) and to we also have some of the Raeco Standard Steel bookends ( fig A on Raeco's 2010 catalogue, pg E24 ). My problem is - the Indicator blocks can't hold the weight of any books - even if they are supported by a bookend - so my indicator blocks end up being shoved over - by children and books and the shelves are driving me nuts as they always look a mess. Has anyone else got a solution to get these indicator blocks to stay standing upright - I had wondered if I was going to have to buy the Checkmate Book Supports ( fig D on Raeco's 2010 catalogue, pg E24 ) to not support the books, but to support each side of the indicator block. Alternatively - do I chuck those indicator blocks and re-invest in something that has a bit more weight to it - if so, any suggestions on what that product could be? The only other ones I have seen in my limited library career are the ones from Syba Signs ( Winter 2010 catalogue, pg 10 ).
I'd really love to hear from any of you, any and all suggestions are welcomed - I am getting to desperation point!!
Thanks in advance!
Lisa at Te Papapa School, Onehunga.
