Book week ideas

Hi everyone
I would be very keen to hear your ideas for a successful Book Week. I have scheduled one with Scholastic in August the week before the Storylines Family Free day on Sunday August 30. Am hoping to see a more active involvement by our children at this fabulous day following a week hopefully of fun book activities.
It will be my first Book Week and I am very open to your ideas.

  1. Hi Cathy
The most successful Book Fair I was involved in (as parent help/organiser) worked because the teachers and school staff supported it. They made wish lists which were the basis for book donations, they brought their classes to browse (and make up their own wishlists to take home). We had a school wide favourite characters parade mid week and lots of story telling. There was an open evening which coincided with an open class/art evening which parents came to in droves (the detour to look at books was then an easy option). There was plenty of parent help especially before school and after school. Scholastic have loads of ideas they can give you too (Clifford costume etc). I must admit that it was a daunting undertaking to begin with but afterwards I reflected not quite as much work as I'd thought and very successful. Good luck.

  2. Have you thought of having school staff (that's office and ground staff etc as well as teachers) bringing a favourite from their childhood and students can guess who owns which book?
After the competition people could read to the students.
